Empower-Sport Limited was incorporated as a Company Limited by Guarantee on July 25th 2008. It combats discrimination by conducting projects that empower the disadvantaged and uses sports-related journalism (displayed on the Internet on this page), and other means to achieve these aims. We combat discrimination in all forms both in sport and through sport in society as a whole. We achieve this through education by utilising the power of journalism, and development and training, and engaging the community through social cohesion projects. We have initiated a number of projects to help accomplish our aims:

Mark Metcalf – Freelance Journalist and Author MARK METCALF was born in County Durham in 1959 and now lives in West Yorkshire with his wife Ruth and son Charlie.
A former industrial, and later community and youth, worker Mark now works as a freelance journalist, particularly for The Big Issue in the North magazine and the various publications of the trade union, Unite.
In 2012 Mark started editing the Yorkshire and Humber TUC Newsletter ‘Clocking Off’ and he also regularly contributes articles to Tribune magazine. Mark is becoming a prolific writer of football books with nine out in the last three and a half years, and three to follow in 2012.
